Hi!! its been some time since my last project, but only because I've been working on this! I planned and made this plush from scratch (using the foxy plush model from fnaf 4 as a reference) and am very happy with the result! making this has taught me some skills that I will utilize in the future to work on my fursuit head, and I'm glad I did a smaller scale project like this before moving onto a head :(
the process to make this was very involved, but i'm going to give a basic rundown of the steps required (you should do this, its so fun!)
the first step is getting or making a drawing of what you plan to make, to use as a reference! in my case, I drew up a front and side view of foxy, lining them up so features like the muzzle and eyes were in the same position in each sketch! this drawing is similar to drawings during the fursuit headbase planning process
next comes the foam carving stage! this involved using my drawing to accurately replicate the shapes out of my foam. the foam I use is the green upholstery foam that you can buy at joann's, although any high density upholstery foam should work! I first traced the front views of each piece on to 2 inch foam, and then sculpted each piece to the shape I wanted it. there are more steps to this process, but thats the basic rundown!
next is patterning...
After I had the base for foxy all carved up, I began the patterning process! to do this, it was similar to a fursuit head, where laid strips of tape all over the base until it was covered. I could then mark out all of the fur patterns, as well as other features like the eye. to get what I would trace onto my fabric, I cut these pieces out and laid them flat on my fabric, cutting darts into my patterns if any of them did not lay perfectly flat. after that, it was just a matter of marking and cutting out the fabric! side note - be mindful of the fur direction when tracing templates on the fabric so you can be sure that the fur goes the way you want it to. this didn't matter as much because I was using minky, but its still good practice!
after cutting fabric came the last step, sewing it all together! this took me a long time, mainly because I didn't have a ton of time to work on it, but it slowly came together. I used blanket stitches for individual features on each half of the body, and then sewed the two sides (as well as the arms and legs) using a ladder stitch, which is almost invisible, and great for hiding seams on material with a shorter fur pile, like minky!
to add some finishing touches, I made a pupil for the eye out of craft foam, and a removable eyepatch made out of spandex!
i've been working on this project for a while now, so seeing it done is really satisfying, and I'm really happy with how it came out! i made many mistakes, but next go I have at this I can keep those in mind to make the process go more smoothly!
if you have the time and materials, I think you should make a plushy too! you can just do things, I believe in you!
